As I sit down to write about the Laws of Attraction, I can’t help but reflect on my own journey and the misconceptions I once held that you need to believe in yourself first. Like many, I used to believe that in order to manifest my desires, I needed unwavering faith in both myself and the Laws of Attraction. However, over time, I’ve come to realize that this perception is not entirely accurate. Let me share with you why.
When I first encountered the concept of the Laws of Attraction, I was skeptical, to say the least, but also intrigued. Could you really just think about something and make it happen? The idea that my thoughts could shape my reality seemed too good to be true. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try. After all, I had nothing to lose given that attracting stuff effortlessly takes very little time.
I set out with determination and began by applying one of the simplest strategies to activate the Laws of Attraction. This strategy was simply writing down my desire 15 times a day in longhand.
I started with one objective measurable goal: to become a bestselling author. I had read that Scott Adams of the Dilbert cartoons applied this strategy to become the top cartoonist in the world and it worked. Well, if it worked for him, it was worth a try.
Believe in yourself. It’s a phrase we often hear, but what does it truly mean? For me, it meant trusting in my abilities and staying committed to my vision, even when doubt crept in. And believe me, doubt did rear its head more than once along the way. But instead of letting it derail me, I used it as fuel to propel me forward. This was especially true when my book, Coach Yourself to Success, was rejected by several New York City publishing houses. Plenty of doubt! But I kept on writing 15 times a day, “I am a bestselling author.”
As I continued this exercise, something remarkable started to happen. Opportunities began to present themselves, seemingly out of nowhere. It was as if the universe was conspiring to help me succeed. And yet, I still harbored doubts about whether it was truly the Laws of Attraction at work or just coincidence. How could you tell the difference?
Then, I had the good fortune to attend one of Shatki Gawain’s live workshops based on her book, Creative Visualization. At one point in the workshop, she gave us an exercise to do as a group. We were to think about something we really wanted and imagine it in a pink bubble and let it float out into the universe. Of course, I imagined my published book and put that image in the pink bubble. I imagined it floating out there into the world. Funny thing, a week or so after, my book got picked up by a publisher. I had a book deal!
But as I reflect on those moments now, I realize that it wasn’t blind faith in the Laws of Attraction that brought about those opportunities. It was my willingness to stay persistent in the face of challenges. You don’t necessarily have to believe in yourself; I was full of self-doubt. But it sure helps if you believe in your desire or wish. It’s not just about having confidence in yourself. It’s about having the courage to step out of your comfort zone and pursue your dreams wholeheartedly.
The turning point for me came when I stopped fixating on whether I believed in the Laws of Attraction and instead focused on the results I was seeing in my life. The more I experienced the ease of attraction firsthand, the more my belief in the process solidified.
In fact, that is why I created the Coach Yourself to Success online course. Each simple life coaching assignment in the course will make it easier and easier for you to attract what you desire. It is actually much easier to work on your life and then attract your wishes than it is to do the old-fashioned goal-setting. Why not just set your intention and let the world come to you?
Do you have to believe in yourself? It’s not a prerequisite for the Laws of Attraction to work, but rather a by-product of seeing the results for yourself. As I continued on my journey, I realized that belief in oneself is not something that comes before action. It’s something that grows as you witness the power of your intention to shape your results.
So, do you need to believe in the Laws of Attraction to make them work? In my experience, the answer is no. What you do need is the willingness to do the work and stay committed to your personal growth and development, even in the face of uncertainty. As you start to see results, you will also start to believe in yourself. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve when the power of belief aligns with your intentions and actions.
Now, what kind of life coach would I be if I didn’t share some practical steps you can take to activate the Laws of Attraction in your life? Here are a few simple steps you can take to start attracting what you most desire:
Set Clear Intentions:
Take the time to clearly define what you want to attract into your life. Write down your goals and visualize yourself already achieving them. This clarity will help focus your thoughts and energy towards manifesting your desires.
Take Action:
While it’s important to visualize your goals, it also helps to take action towards achieving them, however small. Pay attention to any inspired ideas or opportunities that come your way and take decisive action on them. Trust that the universe is guiding you toward your desires.
Say Yes:
When you do attract something wonderful, please say yes to it! I had one client who attracted her dream job, but then nearly turned it down, until I helped her see this was a unique and rare opportunity—a once-in-a-lifetime job. Sometimes things happen so easily that we dismiss them because we are so accustomed to having to struggle or work hard to get what we want. Just because it lands on your lap doesn’t mean it isn’t any good. You’d be amazed at how many people discount or dismiss good things for this reason.
Practice Gratitude:
Cultivate an attitude of gratitude for what you already have in your life. By appreciating the blessings you currently enjoy, you’ll attract even more abundance into your life. Make a habit of expressing gratitude daily, whether through journaling, meditation, or simply saying thank you to as many people around you as you can.
Clear Clutter:
As you clear out physical clutter from your living space, you also clear out mental and emotional clutter. This creates space for new opportunities and people to come into your life. Start by decluttering one area of your home or workspace at a time, letting go of items that no longer serve you. As you release the old, you make room for the new.
Practice Self-Compassion:
Be kind to yourself throughout this process. Remember that personal growth and transformation take time, and it’s okay to stumble along the way. Treat yourself with the same love and compassion you would offer a dear friend, and celebrate your progress no matter how small.
By incorporating these practical steps into your daily life, you’ll begin to activate the Laws of Attraction and attract more of what you desire with greater ease. Remember, it’s not about blindly believing in the process, but rather trusting in yourself and the power of your actions to shape your reality. As you start to believe in yourself, you’ll find yourself moving towards your objectives effortlessly as the universe conspires to help you achieve your dreams. I know, it truly does sound magical. You don’t have to believe, it, just start with writing down what you want 15 times a day and see what results come your way.
