You say you want more, more time, more joy, more presence, but are you truly ready to receive it? Most of us aren’t. Not because we’re not worthy, but because we haven’t created the space. Learning how to start living your ideal life begins with one powerful question: Are you available to receive it?
I’ll never forget my client, Elena, a senior executive at a multinational firm, constantly flying around Europe for high-level strategy meetings, keynote presentations, and leadership briefings. From the outside, she looked unstoppable. She was unstoppable. Yet something in her life wasn’t living.
In our very first coaching session, I asked her a simple question: “Describe your ideal day.”
She paused. Then she said something that stopped me in my tracks: “I’d be in my kitchen at 7:30 a.m., making pancakes for my daughters before school.”
No talk of power lunches. No strategic partnerships. Just pancakes.
That clarity was beautiful and heartbreaking. Because in her real life? She was waking up in hotel rooms, eating breakfast in airport lounges, and watching her daughters’ school photos on her phone.
Elena wanted balance. She wanted presence. What she didn’t yet know was that before she could receive that life, she had to make space for it. And that’s where most people fall short in learning how to start living their ideal life.
Step One: Make Room to Receive
You can’t receive something new without clearing space for it, emotionally, mentally, practically. We looked at Elena’s calendar together and made one radical, intentional choice: she would take Fridays off. Not occasionally. Not trial weeks here and there. Every Friday.
That became her built‐in three‐day weekend. Friday mornings became pancake mornings. Friday afternoons became museum visits with her girls, library storytimes, and long walks where no emails were allowed.
That first Friday, Elena woke up in her own bed. She cooked with her daughters. She breathed. And she felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time: true alignment.
Learning how to start living your ideal life isn’t about grand sacrifices. It’s about choosing what matters most consistently.
Step Two: Release the Beliefs Blocking You
Here’s what most people don’t see: You don’t just need to clear your calendar to receive your ideal life. You need to clear your beliefs about what you deserve.
In Elena’s case, she believed: “Success means sacrifice.” “If I’m not working hard, I’m not valuable.” “Taking time off is indulgent.”
These beliefs were so deeply embedded that she didn’t even recognize them as beliefs. They were just “truth.” And until she became aware of them, they quietly governed her behavior.
So how do you uncover beliefs you don’t even know you have?
How to Uncover Limiting Beliefs (Even Without a Coach)
It’s true that a life coach can help you recognize blind spots faster, but you can begin uncovering the beliefs that shape your world today, on your own. Here are tools you can start using:
1. Notice What You’re Tolerating. Where in your life do you feel stuck, drained, resentful, or anxious? Behind every discomfort is a belief like: “I should always be productive.” “Rest is weakness.” “I can’t have what I want until I earn it.”
These are signals your nervous system is sending you. Start asking: “What belief is underneath this feeling?”
2. Listen to Your Language. Our habitual language reveals our beliefs, especially when we speak unconsciously. Listen for phrases like: “I have to…” “I don’t have enough…” “Maybe someday…”
These phrases are beliefs dressed in everyday clothes. Write them down. They’re clues.
3. Use the “Joy and Resistance Filter”. When you imagine your ideal life: What makes you feel light and expanded? What makes you feel tight or guilty?
That resistance, the emotional hesitation, is almost always a hidden belief saying: “I don’t think I deserve this yet.” You don’t have to stay stuck with that belief. Awareness is the first shift. The next is challenge.
Want to Expand Your Vision?
If you want to take this even further, I highly recommend the classic book The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz. It offers timeless insights on how to think beyond limitation, shift your mindset, and step into a bigger version of your life, all essential if you’re ready to start receiving the life you truly want.
Step Three: Challenge and Replace
Once a hidden belief becomes visible, you can begin to challenge it.
For example, when Elena became aware of “Success equals sacrifice,” we asked her: Is that really true? Where did you learn that belief? Does it still serve you today? What else might be possible if you didn’t believe that anymore?
This simple inquiry peeled away the old belief and opened space for a new one: “My worth is not defined by hours worked, but by presence, joy, and impact.”
Once that belief was anchored, everything changed. She didn’t just take Fridays off. She lived them fully, without guilt. Her energy improved. Her leadership presence expanded. And she became a role model for balance in her company.
That’s what happens when you learn how to start living your ideal life, not through perfection, but through a conscious shift.
You Don’t Need a Life Overhaul, Just One Conscious Choice
This truth is liberating: You don’t have to uproot your life to begin the life you want. You simply have to open the door.
For Elena, it started with pancakes. For you? It might be:
- A daily walk without your phone
- Saying “no” to one thing that drains you
- Scheduling regular time for joy
- Telling yourself a new story about what you deserve
One choice leads to another, and then your life starts to reflect what you truly want. This is the art of learning how to start living your ideal life, with intention, awareness, and presence.
