The Powers of Attraction: Harnessing Your Inner Magnetism

Share this on:

Have you ever noticed how some people effortlessly attract success, opportunities, and even love? It seems like they have a secret power, an invisible force that draws everything they desire into their lives like a magnet. But what exactly are these powers of attraction? How can you harness them to create the life you’ve always wanted? Below, I dive into the laws of attraction and share some practical tips on how you can increase your powers of attraction with a few simple steps.

Understanding the Powers of Attraction

The ability to increase your powers of attraction is not about magic or luck. They are grounded in the principles of energy and intention. At its core, the law of attraction is based on the idea that like attracts like. Your thoughts, feelings, and actions emit energy into the universe, and this energy attracts similar energy back to you. When you focus on positive thoughts and feelings, you attract positive experiences and opportunities. Conversely, negative thoughts and feelings attract negative experiences.

This principle is not new. It has been around for centuries, and many successful people have used it, often without even realizing it. Your mind is a powerful tool. What you focus on expands. By consciously directing your thoughts and energy towards what you want, you can activate your own powers of attraction and bring those desires into your life. Yes, it sounds like magical thinking, but it works!

Let’s get started with the following steps that you can take to activate the powers of attraction for yourself.

Clearing the Path: Removing Energy Drains

Before you can fully harness your powers of attraction, it helps to clear away any energy drains that might be blocking your path. These energy drains can take many forms, such as clutter, unresolved conflicts, negative relationships, and even limiting beliefs about yourself and your capabilities. By resolving these issues, you free up your energy to focus on attracting what you truly desire.

Start by making a list of everything that is currently draining your energy, including the pesky little things that annoy you, the things that you are tolerating, like the crack in your review mirror, or that button missing from your favorite shirt. This could be physical clutter in your home, unfinished tasks or projects, or emotional baggage from past experiences. Once you have your list, tackle each item one by one. Some will be quick and easy, like sewing on a missing button, while others may take time, such as seeking therapy to resolve a trauma from the past that is limiting you today.

As you clear away these energy drains, you’ll find that you have more energy and focus to devote to your goals and desires. You’ll also be naturally more attractive without even trying. In fact, if you are trying to be attractive, you’ve missed the point. You don’t do anything, you just are different as a result of having done the work.

Here’s a simple example. Recently I went to a friend’s house to help her clear some clutter as she was stuck but ready to move on. We tackled one room and I was astounded to see just how many unfinished projects she had. One involved using old molds from her father to create new sculptures and then showing them in an exhibit! Holy cow, but that is a massive project. Those old molds were themselves covered in mold. You can imagine why she couldn’t step foot in the room without feeling overwhelmed by the weight of all these projects she thought she would do in the future. If a project is not giving you joy and you aren’t eagerly looking forward to working on it, then why on earth are you doing it? Thankfully, she agreed to part with these molds and realized she was never going to turn them into an exhibit. You can imagine how much freer and lighter she will feel without the weight of that expectation on her shoulders.

I had kept a set of beautiful fabric squares for years, thinking I’d make it into a quilt, but never seemed to get around to it. Finally, I gifted the lot to my aunt who is an amazing quilter. So, either get out that sewing machine and start making the quilt or donate to a charity or friend who would be happy to receive them.

What unfinished projects do you have lurking about your house? If you sense any feelings of heaviness or reluctance to start the project, do yourself a huge favor and give the project to someone who would be thrilled to do it. Life is too short to spend your time on projects that you don’t love.

Setting Clear Intentions

One well-known way to activate your powers of attraction is by setting clear and specific intentions. When you know exactly what you want, it’s easier to direct your thoughts and energy towards achieving it. Take some time to reflect on your deepest desires. What do you truly want in your career, relationships, health, and personal growth? Write down your intentions in as much detail as possible. Include sounds, scents, and other sensory details in your description of what you want.

For example, instead of setting a vague intention like “I want to be successful,” be specific about what success looks like for you. Do you want a promotion at work to a specific role, a thriving business, or recognition in your field with a particular reward? The more specific you are, the easier it will be to visualize and attract your desired outcome. I learned early the power of attraction when a friend of mine won an award in elementary school called the Friendship Award.  At the time I thought, “I want to win that.” I had forgotten about that tiny intention until a year later, I came home proudly waiving the plaque.

One simple tip to clarify your intentions is to write down what you want 10 to 15 times a day. I recommend writing by hand on a piece of paper or in a notebook. Keep writing until you attract what you want. I learned about this technique from Scott Adams, the creator of the famous Dilbert comics. He wanted to be the number one cartoonist in the world and wrote that down ten times a day until he was!

I also love Jim Carrey’s story of wanting to be one of the most highly-paid actors. He wrote himself a check for one million dollars for his acting services and posted it on his wall. He ended up making much more than a million for his movies.

Visualizing Your Desired Outcome

Visualization is a powerful tool for harnessing the powers of attraction. When you visualize your desired outcomes, you create a mental image of what you want to achieve. This image sends a clear message to your subconscious mind and the universe about your intentions.

Find a quiet place where you can relax and close your eyes. Picture yourself living your ideal life. See yourself achieving your goals, enjoying fulfilling relationships, and experiencing happiness and abundance. Engage all your senses in this visualization. How does it feel? What do you see, hear, and smell? The more vivid and detailed your visualization, the more powerful it will be.

Now, take a pen and paper and sketch out the elements of your ideal life to the best of your ability. It’s okay if they are stick-figure sketches. Add some explanatory notes and you’ve got your vision board. It doesn’t have to be a work of art to work!

Practicing Gratitude

Gratitude is one of the easiest ways to activate the powers of attraction. When you focus on what you are grateful for, you shift your energy to a higher frequency. This positive energy attracts more positive experiences into your life. Make it a daily practice to express gratitude for everything you have, no matter how small. This could be as simple as appreciating a beautiful sunrise, a kind gesture from a friend, or a delicious meal.

Keep a gratitude journal and write down three things you are grateful for each day. Over time, you’ll notice that your mindset becomes more positive, and you attract more things to be grateful for.

And one of the best ways to practice gratitude is to send hand-written thank you notes every day. Not only do you start to realize how much you have received from others, but they get the joy of getting a lovely hand-written note. Here’s how to write a simple thank you note.

 Surrounding Yourself with Positive Energy

The people and environment around you have a significant impact on your energy and the powers of attraction. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who uplift and encourage you. Create a living and working environment that inspires and energizes you.

If there are toxic relationships or environments in your life, take steps to distance yourself from them. Protect your energy by setting healthy boundaries with the 4-Step Communication Model and prioritizing your well-being.

Get your Personal and Emotional Needs Satisfied

Instinctively, we know that neediness is unattractive and often repellent. Yet all humans have emotional needs such as the need to be loved, appreciated, cared for, listened to, understood, and connected. There are over 100 different personal and emotional needs. Do you know what your top four needs are? If you don’t know what you need, it is likely that at some level you may be repelling people with your unconscious neediness.

Thankfully, this is entirely curable. You can find out what your top four personal and emotional needs are with the free Emotional Index Quiz. Then take steps to satisfy them. This will instantly increase your ability to attract the people and opportunities you want. (I write in-depth about needs, boundaries, and values in my book, The Secret Laws of Attraction.)

You Don’t Have to Trust the Process or Believe in Yourself

Finally, although many say you have to trust the process of attraction, I’ve discovered that you can be highly skeptical and the laws will still work. Just like the law of gravity, you don’t need to be a believer for it to work. That said, sometimes, it may take time for your desires to manifest. Trust that the universe is working behind the scenes to bring your intentions to fruition (and keep in mind, it may be that what you want, may not be in your highest good). Stay positive, and keep your focus on visualizing your dream. You’ll only start to believe in yourself and your powers of attraction when you start seeing the results and good things seem to “magically” appear in your life.

So if you are skeptical now, don’t worry. Just take the steps to clear your clutter, practice gratitude, and visualize what you want and you’ll soon see for yourself!

You Are Allowed to Take Action

While setting intentions and visualizing your desired outcomes are powerful steps, it doesn’t hurt to take some practical steps. The powers of attraction are not about sitting back and waiting for things to happen, although that can work too. The key is that you want to be irresistibly attractive while also moving forward toward your goals and desires. Start by taking tiny steps towards your goals and keep your eyes open for opportunities that come your way.

The powers of attraction are within each of us, waiting to be activated. By clearing away energy drains and setting clear intentions you’ll be making a great start to effortlessly attracting the life you desire. Focus on what you desire, act with positive intentions, and the universe will respond in kind. Start today and watch the magic of attraction unfold in your life.
