As you work through this program you’ll gradually be becoming more of yourself. Your own unique talents and contributions will begin to emerge as your life centers around your values and gifts and as you become increasingly selfish. It is very tempting to compare oneself with others. In some cases, I ask you to deliberately compare yourself to others to see what you want for yourself. However, if you stop comparing yourself to others or trying to conform to others, you will start to discover your own uniqueness and creativity. You will find your own path.
I used to compare myself to two of my very successful colleagues, Laura Berman Fortgang, the author of numerous books, and Cheryl Richardson who has been featured on Oprah and has numerous bestsellers under her belt as well as a radio show. I realized that each of us has our own way of bringing coaching to the world. Laura is now moving in a spiritual direction. Cheryl doesn’t work with people individually, but in groups. I realized that my own vision for coaching was to make coaching accessible and affordable for everyone. I also enjoy coaching people individually and still do that. As I started to develop my vision, Coach Yourself to Success Online was born and now this advanced course, The Ideal Life Program. By doing something completely new and different, I have now stopped comparing myself to these two successful colleagues. It happens effortlessly as it is a natural result of being and offering more of yourself and focusing on what you can do as opposed to what others are doing.
Homework:
List the people whom you constantly compare yourself to. What traits do they have that you want? What do you gain by comparing yourself to them? What is your own unique contribution to others?
Use your online journal to write whatever comes to mind. No action necessary. Just observe and add notes as you notice your own creativity emerging.
Ten Minute Option:
Same as above.
Enjoy!
