50: Connect with Your Higher Self

You can connect directly with your higher self or your inner wisdom by getting into a relaxed, meditative state and then getting out a journal and writing down your question. Write the answer to the question with whatever comes to mind. Don’t overthink this, just jot down whatever happens to come to mind. You can ask as many questions as you want and you can clarify and get more specific if an answer doesn’t sound right or doesn’t make sense. It becomes just like a conversation. If you’ve read Donald Neal Walsh’s book, Conversations with God, you’ll get the idea, but here is an example of how it works.

Q: How can I stop being so critical of my spouse?
A: You will be critical, but bite your tongue. Add in loads of acknowledgement so there is a bank of good feeling in place. Then it is easier to criticize without it being a problem.

Q: What can you acknowledge your spouse for?
I can tell him he did a superb job cooking Thanksgiving dinner and that the food was excellent; that I’m glad he is happy doing the LifeBoat volunteer work; that it is nice when he cooks dinner and does the shopping; that he is very fit and trim; that he is gentle and kind to people, that he is a good man.

Q: Should we take out a loan to renovate the loft and kitchen?
A: From a financial standpoint it makes sense, given it is cheaper than renting office space. From a stress standpoint, doing the loft right now may not be a good idea. Hold off until after the kitchen and then decide. In the meantime, put guests up in a B&B or on a sleep sofa.

Q: I still want to do the loft. It is messy and dirty and I don’t like going up there. I want to transform the loft into a lovely space for an office and guest room.
A: Okay, but first do the kitchen as that is enough at one time. You might want a break at that time…

You can ask any questions you want, mundane or profound. If the answer doesn’t come immediately, skip it and ask a different question and be willing for the answer to come in time. You can try asking again another day.

Homework:
Start incorporating these conversations with your higher self (if you believe in God or angels, you can have these conversations with them instead, if you prefer) as part of your journaling. Make sure you are in a relaxed and calm state before you start. The more you do it, the easier it will become.

10 Minute Option:
Same as above. You can work in these Q&A sessions with your higher self into your online or paper journal.
