Is your home comfortable, beautiful and nurturing? Whether you live in a modern New York City loft or a cozy cottage in the woods, make your home a place where you truly relax, kick back and feel at ease. Your home is a place where you can recharge, rest and relax. If you find you come home to more stress, then something has to change. Do whatever it takes to create a haven in your own home. If the kids have toys all over the place, set aside a toy-free, adult area somewhere in the house (your bedroom and study might be good places). Too much clutter to relax? Hire a professional organizer to sort things out for you and find a place for every thing you own. Not happy with the furnishings or decor? Hire a professional interior designer or have a really talented friend come over to do a makeover on your home. Many home interior shops offer a free design consultation service and will even visit your home. You may need to spend a certain amount in their shop to qualify so pick a shop you really love and go for it!
It doesn’t matter if your space is tiny (I had a designer take a look at my New York City apartment that was all of 500 square feet!) or huge. My aunt has the tiniest little cottage and not much space so she splurged on a really terrific sofa and then painted the walls tomato red to pick up one of the colors in the fabric. It looks amazing!
If you feel nurtured in your own home, then you’ll have more energy for your bigger goals.
This week’s assignment: do one thing to make your home more nurturing. Buy a houseplant (orchids are my personal favorite for instant glamor and low-maintenance), hire a house cleaner, get rid of the clutter, hire an interior designer. If you don’t know where to begin, start in your bedroom as that is an obvious place to rest and relax.
